This exhibition showcases the multidisciplinary practice of Scottish artist Charlie Prodger, winner of the Turner Prize. It explores complex relationships between body, landscape, language, technology, and time through photography, sculpture, drawings, and film.
The practice of Scottish artist Charlie Prodger (b. 1974) spans moving image, photography, sculpture, and drawing. Prodger, a Turner Prize winner and Venice Biennale participant, focuses on the intricate connections between geological time, anecdotal narratives, and oral traditions, all viewed through the lens of queer subjectivity. The exhibition 'The Offering Formula' features photographs, sculptural wall works, and a new series of meticulously executed drawings that delve into geology's relationship with time and identity, exploring concepts of taxonomy, variation, mise en abyme, and the fragmentation of form. Prodger's engagement with the evolution of reproduction technologies and the resultant data migration is visibly inscribed into her artistic language, highlighting her fascination with musealization, conservation, materiality, time, permanence, and entropy.
Across three exhibition spaces, Prodger presents her complete film trilogy: 'Stoneymollan Trail' (2015), 'BRIDGIT' (2016), and 'SaF05' (2019). These works challenge linear historical progression by proposing a matrix of possible queer relationships that transcend time. The autobiographical cycle traces the affiliations, desires, and experiences of loss that accumulate and shape the self over years. A publication accompanying the exhibition includes an essay by Sarah Hayden, examining the significance of voice in Prodger's videos.
