This exhibition, titled 'Das Experiment 2A >a room of one's own<', draws inspiration from Virginia Woolf's 1929 essay to engage with contemporary feminist discourse and practice in the art field. It serves as a forum for exploration and expansion of these themes, with participants contributing asynchronously. The project is planned to continue with further exhibition dates, events, and a dedicated website for exchange.
Titled '>a room of one's own<' and borrowing from Virginia Woolf's seminal 1929 essay, this exhibition engages with the historical roots of the women's movement and its relevance to contemporary feminist discourse in art. The project is conceived as a forum for investigating and expanding current feminist dialogue and practice within the art field.
It functions as an open structure with evolving participants, who explore various knowledge and experience aspects to find new directions. Strategies of fusion and shared interests form the basis for collaborative work, with individual contributions being processed, modified, or presented independently. This dynamic interplay generates a constructive collection of contradictions. The presentation of the first part includes feminist research, utilizing collage and comic methods to visualize working processes in space, referencing practices like those of Martha Rosler and Linda Bilda. This project aims to provide methods for describing life worlds, articulating conflicts, and giving space to diverse positions within feminist discourse. A website, www.aroomofonesown.at, serves as a platform for exchange, discussion, and information, aiming to connect with existing feminist networks and conclude the project in the spirit of bell hooks' 'Feminism is for Everybody'.
