This exhibition explores utopian projections as alternatives and forms of resistance against the present. It features a project by Ines Doujak and Oliver Ressler, in collaboration with international artist-curators, presented across seven distinct salons.
The exhibition 'Utopian Pulse – Flares in the Darkroom' delves into the concept of utopia as an incomplete alternative, a negation of the existing, and a claim for the unrealized within the real. Initiated by Ines Doujak and Oliver Ressler, and developed with a group of international artist-curators, the project aims to investigate utopian impulses that can serve as resistance against the present.
The exhibition is structured into seven salons, each curated by different artists or collectives, focusing on various aspects of utopian thought and social movements. These include 'Salon Public Happiness' curated by Christoph Schäfer, 'Salon-E-Girdbad' by Mariam Ghani, 'Salon Orizzonti Occupati' by Bert Theis, 'Salon Fluchthilfe' by Zanny Begg, 'Salon DADADA' by AND AND AND with Ben Morea, 'Cuartos de Utopía' by Pedro G. Romero/Máquina P.H., and 'Salón de Belleza' by Miguel A. López. Each salon presents artworks, discussions, and performances that engage with themes of public space, political projects, community, resistance, and the transformation of the body. The exhibition format itself questions fixed role perceptions within the art field, aiming for new forms of exchange between artists, curators, and viewers.
