Michael John Ashcroft Achieves Associate Membership with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at York Fine Arts
York Fine Arts has shared its congratulations following the election of contemporary artist Michael John Ashcroft as an Associate member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI).
Celebrating Excellence in British Oil Painting
Established in 1882 and holding royal status since 1909, the ROI is dedicated to preserving traditional oil painting methods while supporting leading practitioners in the field. Membership is restricted to roughly 65 elected individuals, including prominent contemporary painters and Royal Academicians. To secure an Associate position, an artist's work must be featured in at least three annual exhibitions and garner approval from both the selection committee and a majority of the institute's existing members.
Reflecting on the milestone, York Fine Arts Gallery Manager Deanna Dawkins praised the artist's dedication, distinctive style, and commitment to capturing authentic, emotive scenes through both immersive plein air compositions and detailed studio pieces.
