Flynn’s artistic journey began in her early years, leading to her graduation from the Manchester School of Art in 1973 with a Diploma in Art & Design, followed by an Art Teachers Certificate from Leeds Polytechnic Institute in 1974. Following her formal education, she moved to France to live and paint in the Languedoc region alongside fellow artist and future husband, Paul Hedley, with whom she maintained a lifelong artistic partnership.
Upon returning to the United Kingdom, Flynn established a diverse practice that balanced studio work, teaching, and exhibiting. Her expertise earned her a role with George Rowney & Co. demonstrating oil, watercolour, acrylic, and pastel techniques. Initially achieving recognition as a portrait painter, she transitioned to a full-time figurative artist by 1976. Over the decades, she built a dedicated following of collectors and showcased her work internationally, including exhibitions with prestigious institutions such as The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and The Pastel Society in London.
