O.L.V. ter Potterie and the Historic Art Reunion in Bruges
Bruges is currently hosting an extraordinary artistic homecoming that highlights the city's rich heritage of religious art. Two long-separated panel paintings depicting the lives of Saint James and Saint John have been reunited after more than a century apart. In 1909, both of these highly detailed panels were in the possession of a London art dealer before being sold to different collectors. One panel was acquired shortly after by the municipal collections in Bruges, while the other was purchased by the prominent Japanese art collector Kojiro Matsukata.
For the first time in nearly 116 years, the sibling paintings were recently reunited for a special exhibition at the National Museum of Western Art (NMWA) in Tokyo.
