Exhibition summary

Photographer Philippe Herbet explores the art of aging with a blend of positivity and nostalgia. Through his images captured in Bruges and the Basque Country, he examines how we reflect on the past, present, and future.

Curatorial context

In 'Wijzertijd' (Hand of Time), Belgian photographer Philippe Herbet presents a series of works born from a curiosity about human culture and the passage of life. Created during his tenure as the seasonal artist for 2026/27, the exhibition captures the art of aging through a lens that is both positive and nostalgic. By drawing from recent image archives and traveling through Bruges and the Basque Country, Herbet photographs individuals he encountered by chance, treating them as mirrors to his own life journey. The exhibition is organized around seven distinct themes: travel, walking, strolling, contemplation, dreaming, listening, and reading. These themes invite viewers to reflect on the various stages of life and the wisdom that accompanies them. Visitors are encouraged to experience these works within the Concertgebouw Circuit, providing a meditative space to engage with Herbet's sensitive and observant approach to photography.

Admission and ticket notes

The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the Concertgebouw Circuit or before and after performances. Visitors have the option to register for special artist-led tours with the photographer, which are available at specific times upon booking via the official website.
