Exhibition summary

RHÎZA is an interactive installation that creates a visual and auditory environment where the public acts as an active agent in its ongoing transformation. The work bridges artistic, technological, and somatic thought with scientific research from the University of Coimbra, exploring the intersection of mycology, neuroscience, and organic processes.

Curatorial context

RHÎZA serves as an interactive art object that invites visitors to engage with the environment through movement and sound. By finding parallels between organic processes and multidisciplinary artistic creation, the installation prompts critical reflection on the biological world, incorporating the sense of play characteristic of the Unloop Collective's work. The project was developed in partnership with researchers from the University of Coimbra, specifically drawing on studies in mycology and neuroscience to frame the exhibition's artistic logic. Directed by choreographers and visual artists Sara Montalvão and David Negrão, this project is part of the 'Dar a Ouvir' initiative, co-organized by the Jazz ao Centro Clube and the Convento São Francisco. The exhibition features a collaborative soundscape and incorporates both performance elements and a structured installation space, aiming to foster a dialogue between scientific exploration and artistic contemplation.
