Curatorial context

‘Until the End of the World’ is an evocative research project that bridges the gap between scientific inquiry and artistic expression. By placing geological time scales in dialogue with the relatively brief human experience, the work asks fundamental questions about our influence on the planet and our place within the Earth's long historical narrative. The installation serves as a space for reflection, using natural elements as both physical components and conceptual inspiration. At the core of the installation is a performance-based musical work directed by Fernando Mota, which utilizes natural materials to create its auditory landscape. The structural and instrumental framework is guided by the ancient Chinese oracle I Ching, infusing the piece with a system of chance and order. This collaborative project is integrated into the 'Dar a Ouvir' program, a co-production between the Educational Service of the Jazz ao Centro Clube (JACC) and the Convento São Francisco in Coimbra, reflecting the institution's commitment to supporting complex, interdisciplinary art.
