Casita del Jardinero – CIFAL Málaga recently celebrated a key milestone in youth civic education, awarding certificates to over thirty high school students. These young participants successfully completed the initial phase of a specialized training cycle focused on active citizenship, democracy, and peace-building processes.
Empowering Youth and Promoting Peace in Málaga
The certification ceremony, held to recognize the dedication of local students who took part in seminars throughout April and May, highlights the ongoing educational efforts hosted at the United Nations centre in Málaga Park. Organized in cooperation with local municipal authorities, these sessions are designed to deepen youth involvement in creating equitable, sustainable communities.
The curriculum aligns closely with the United Nations Agenda 2030, specifically emphasizing Goal 16, which champions peace, justice, and robust institutions. Through interactive methods such as case studies, debates, and role-playing exercises, students explored critical topics ranging from governance and transparency to human rights and conflict resolution. With the first phase successfully concluded, a second phase of the program is scheduled for August.
Continuing Education Through the Virtual Classroom
Beyond the in-person youth seminars, local residents continue to have access to a digital learning platform managed by the centre. This online initiative offers free courses covering various aspects of sustainability, local tourism strategies, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants can complete these modules flexibly and earn official certifications from CIFAL Málaga and UNITAR upon completion.
