Museo Casa Natal Picasso Publishes First Spanish Edition of Max Jacob's Cubist Memoir
The Museo Casa Natal Picasso in Málaga has released the first-ever Spanish translation of Chronique des temps héroïques (Chronicle of Heroic Times), a seminal work by the French poet Max Jacob. This special volume features original illustrations by Pablo Picasso, marking a unique collaboration between two close friends who helped shape the 20th-century avant-garde.
A Rare Glimpse into Picasso's Parisian Circle in Málaga
Originally published in Paris in 1956 by Louis Broder to celebrate Picasso’s 75th birthday, the book was printed in a highly limited run. The copy preserved in the Museo Casa Natal Picasso library came to the institution in 1992 as part of a generous donation of ten rare bibliographical works by Christine Ruiz-Picasso.
In this memoir, Max Jacob offers an intimate, firsthand account of the birth of Cubism and the bohemian lifestyle of Paris. Jacob, who first met Picasso in 1901, became one of his closest confidants, witnessing the painter's early creative breakthroughs and the vibrant artistic community that surrounded him.
This new edition represents the eleventh entry in the museum's "Textos recuperables" (Recovered Texts) collection, a project initiated in 2013 under the direction of Rafael Inglada to bring rare, historically significant documents to a wider audience.
Attending the Book Presentation at the Museum
Visitors and local literature enthusiasts can experience the official presentation of Crónica de los tiempos heroicos on Friday, June 19 at 19:00. The event will take place in the assembly hall of the Museo Casa Natal Picasso.
The presentation will feature the book's translator, poet Álvaro Galán Castro, who also wrote the volume’s introduction to provide historical context on the deep friendship and collaborative spirit between Jacob and Picasso.
