Animated Art Showcase by Illustrator Rep Opens at Museo Casa Natal Picasso in Málaga
Visitors to Málaga have a unique opportunity to experience Picasso's birthplace through a fresh creative lens. The Museo Casa Natal Picasso is hosting a special audiovisual intervention titled Animar la historia. Rep en Casa Natal Picasso (Animating History: Rep at Picasso's Birthplace). Created by the internationally recognized Argentine illustrator and cartoonist Miguel Repiso, widely known as Rep, this temporary showcase runs until the end of December.
What to Expect at the Picasso Birthplace Museum
The intervention integrates a series of animated videos directly into the museum's permanent galleries. Designed specifically for these historic rooms, Rep's animations are displayed across various sections of the birthplace on Plaza de la Merced.
These animations establish a visual dialogue with the museum’s existing collection, which features personal family belongings, domestic settings, and works of art by Picasso and his father. By blending contemporary illustration with historical spaces, the project offers visitors an alternative and engaging perspective on the artist's childhood, his family dynamics, and the early stages of his creative journey.
A Global Contemporary Art Connection in Málaga
This artistic addition is presented as part of the fifth edition of BIENALSUR, the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South. Initiated by the National University of Tres de Febrero (MUNTREF) in Argentina, BIENALSUR is celebrating a decade of building cooperative global art networks. The biennial has grown to encompass 140 venues across more than 70 cities worldwide, aiming to make contemporary art highly accessible and collaborative.
