Museo Casa Natal Picasso in Málaga Partners to Launch New Cultural Space in Texas
The historic birthplace of Pablo Picasso in Málaga is extending its cultural reach across the Atlantic. Through a newly announced institutional agreement, the Museo Casa Natal Picasso is partnering with the city of Round Rock, Texas, to establish a dedicated sister exhibition space.
This international collaboration aims to foster cultural exchange while showcasing the Málaga museum’s extensive collection to a brand-new audience in the United States.
What to Expect from the "Birthing Picasso" Space
The new exhibition area, titled "Birthing Picasso" (Alumbrando a Picasso), will be housed inside the City Arts Center in Round Rock, a newly built facility scheduled to open in early 2026. The state-of-the-art building is designed to meet strict conservation and security standards required for hosting delicate historical artworks.
Under the initial five-year agreement, the Texas venue will host two temporary exhibitions annually, featuring items on loan from the Málaga collection. The project is co-located with "Málaga House," an initiative managed by the Texas-European Chamber of Commerce aimed at fostering technological and business relations between Spain and Texas. The Texas partners will cover all operational costs, including transport, insurance, and travel, alongside a set contribution for each exhibition.
The Inaugural Exhibition and Future Programs
The debut exhibition, titled "Dialogues with Picasso," is being curated by Mario Virgilio Montañez. Visitors to the Texas space can expect to see nearly fifty works on paper by Pablo Picasso, displayed alongside contemporary pieces selected from the Málaga museum's collection.
The city of Round Rock has proposed November 5, 2026, as the official opening date for this inaugural exhibition. Beyond physical artwork displays, the partnership is designed to establish an ongoing cultural dialogue through a series of lectures, educational workshops, and interactive training programs.
