Night of Culture at Museo de la Semana Santa de Málaga Jesús Castellanos for La Noche en Blanco
The historic San Julián complex, which houses the Museo de la Semana Santa de Málaga Jesús Castellanos, is set to open its doors for a special late-night cultural celebration during Málaga's La Noche en Blanco on Saturday, May 16. Starting at 20:30 and extending into the early hours of the morning, this landmark site will offer visitors a diverse program featuring traditional processional music, sacred heritage, and contemporary painting.
Processional Music and Historic Architecture in the Heart of Málaga
A key highlight of the evening is the educational initiative titled "Música cofrade: música de todos los tiempos". This performance offers a chronological journey through the evolution of Holy Week music, tracing its development from early liturgical chants and sacred compositions to the established processional marches of the modern era.
The history will be brought to life through live musical demonstrations by the Banda Juvenil "Juan Jurado Guerrero," a youth band from the local Nuestra Señora de la Paz music school. Two free sessions, lasting approximately 45 minutes each, will take place at 21:00 and 22:30. Entry is free on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached.
In addition to the music, the historic Church of San Julián will remain open for self-guided visits starting at 20:30. As the canonical headquarters of the local brotherhoods' association, the church stands as one of the most culturally significant sacred spaces tied to Málaga's Holy Week traditions.

Visitors to the museum complex will also have the opportunity to explore two temporary exhibitions with extended opening hours until 01:00:
- "Hermanas Trinitarias en Málaga: 100 años tejiendo esperanza": Located in the Temporary Exhibition Hall and the Sala Humero, this exhibition celebrates the centenary of the Trinitarian Sisters' arrival in Málaga in 1925. The display showcases historic embroidery work, including grand processional mantles, sketches, and ceremonial items that helped rebuild the city's religious heritage during the 20th century. It also highlights the congregation's social mission in supporting vulnerable young women.
- "Espacios y Luces": Presented on the first floor of the museum, this contemporary exhibition by artist Paula Varona offers a modern contrast to the traditional sacred art. The paintings explore architectural spaces, urban atmospheres, and the interplay of light and color in everyday landscapes.
