Exhibition summary

This exhibition explores how photography has become a dominant and voracious language in contemporary visual arts, moving beyond flat two-dimensional images. It examines the hybridization of photographic practice with other media, highlighting how modern works function as dynamic interfaces in an increasingly visual and hyper-connected society.

Curatorial context

Photography has become the primary territory of contemporary visual arts, evolving into a living, organic medium in constant flux. While once presented primarily as flat, two-dimensional images, photography today exhibits a limitless capacity for hybridizing with other disciplines. This exhibition investigates how the medium has freed itself from the constraints of 20th-century documentary tradition, moving beyond the mere capture of a single moment through a camera lens. The works on display demonstrate that photography's versatility now transcends traditional narrative functions, as the physical support and the visual content merge to form a singular experience. In our hyper-connected, screen-saturated world, the physical presence of the photographic object has emerged to offer new aesthetic possibilities. The exhibition highlights this shift, where the 'how' of a presentation is considered equal in weight to the 'what' of the imagery itself. By examining the syntactic potential of the 21st-century image, the show invites visitors to consider how visuality has become an interface in its own right, breaking down boundaries between various artistic expressions and reclaiming the material nature of the photographic image.
