Curatorial context

The exhibition 'All you need is glass' presents a curated selection of glass objects created during the 15th International Glass Symposium (IGS), which took place in Nový Bor from October 3–6, 2024. The symposium itself has a tradition spanning over forty years, with past iterations organized by Crystalex and later by the City of Nový Bor in collaboration with regional glass companies and schools. The 15th symposium attracted 45 artists and creative duos from 17 countries across all continents, selected for their diverse backgrounds and creative styles. These artists were provided with the production facilities of local glass enterprises, which, despite being competitors, collaborated to offer artists a unique creative environment. Working under challenging conditions—in unfamiliar settings, before an audience, with different technical amenities, and within a limited timeframe—often leads to one-of-a-kind solutions and surprising results. The event offers the public an opportunity to witness the creation of distinctive glass artworks and experience the authentic atmosphere of the glassworks and accompanying events.
