Exhibition summary

This exhibition, running from late 2025 to early 2026, explores the deep-rooted connection between jewellery and the human form throughout history. It showcases nearly three hundred pieces from the museum's collection and international loans, juxtaposing prehistoric and contemporary works.

Curatorial context

Jewellery and Figure delves into the long-standing theme of human depiction in adornment, presenting almost three hundred pieces from the Museum of Decorative Arts' extensive collection alongside items borrowed from domestic and international institutions and private collections. The exhibition contrasts older prehistoric and historical jewellery with contemporary creations by two dozen artists, creating a dialogue between different eras and styles. These pieces are presented within thematic and formal contexts, highlighting individual details through a curated installation that aims to tell stories of both real and fantastical worlds. The exhibition follows the project Jewellery – Form – Content, which was accompanied by a published book in Czech and English editions. The exhibition showcases the variable nature of figural quality in jewellery, acknowledging that viewer reception ranges from full acceptance to outright rejection. By confronting ancient artefacts with modern designs, 'Jewellery and Figure' offers a comprehensive look at how artists have interpreted the human form through the medium of personal adornment. The display encourages visitors to consider the historical evolution and contemporary relevance of this artistic practice.
