The Josef Sudek Gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to Petr Tausk (1927–1988), a chemist by profession who became a renowned theorist and historian of Czech and world photography. As a photographer, Tausk specialized in portraiture, and this exhibition, his first solo show, displays portraits of prominent figures including photographers such as Bill Brandt, Cornell Capa, Joel Meyerowitz, Sam Haskins, Otto Steinert, Josef Sudek, and Jaroslav Rössler, as well as other accomplished artists like film director Juraj Herz and painter Miroslav Rada. The display also includes many of Tausk’s books. Tausk was influential from the 1960s onwards, lecturing at the Film Academy in Prague and curating numerous exhibitions, notably a retrospective of Josef Sudek in Aachen in 1976. His influential book, 'Photography in the 20th Century,' published in 1977, garnered international acclaim and was translated into several languages, establishing him as a key mediator between Czech and foreign photographic communities.
