This exhibition showcases the photographic archive of Petra Skoupilová, a significant body of work documenting a particular epoch of Czech fashion and culture. It highlights the genre of fashion photography within the Czech milieu and features a richly illustrated book on the subject.
The photographic archive of Petra Skoupilová serves as an exceptionally comprehensive testimony to a particular fashion and culture epoch, while also opening up the hitherto neglected genre of "fashion photography" in the Czech milieu for deeper interdisciplinary research. This exhibition is accompanied by a richly illustrated book authored by Helena Jarošová and Pavel Vančát, with Zuzana Lednická as its graphic designer.
Petra Skoupilová's engagement with fashion began in September 1976, influenced by the alternative jewelry and progressive fashion exhibitions at Bertramka. During the Normalization period, these events provided crucial inspiration and motivation, leading to collaborations with prominent fashion designers such as Liběna Rochová, Jaroslava Procházková, and Daniela Flejšarová. Her work, which culminated in the 1980s and 1990s, includes a vast portfolio published in magazines, advertisement campaigns, and documentary photographs. Skoupilová also captured clothing from Prague's fashion salons (Styl, Eva) and creations by emerging designers and students, as well as producing publicity photographs for the textile industry and foreign trade companies, with her images gracing over 150 covers of most Czech magazines.
