This exhibition, conceived for the anniversary of Vlastislav Hofman (1884-1964), presents his most significant interior design and design works. Hofman's artistic personality was expressed inventively across various disciplines in the first half of the 20th century, contributing to the unique phenomenon of Czech Cubism alongside contemporaries like Pavel Janák and Josef Gočár. The exhibition draws from the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and private collections. Hofman strove to create new forms by applying rhythmic composition and reducing expressive elements to achieve smoothness, purity of surfaces, and respect for material character. His work from roughly 1910 to 1921, evident in architectural and interior designs, ceramics, graphics, book design, drawings, and paintings, emphasized the logic of form and simplification into elementary systems of verticals, horizontals, and sloping planes. His inspirations ranged from the Artěl Association and the Artists' Group to contemporary foreign art and even the furniture design of the Biedermeier era.
