Otto Placht: Fleeting Eternity of the Amazon – A Major Art Exhibition in Prague

This exhibition showcases the works of Otto Placht, inspired by his life in the Peruvian Amazon. It features large-format paintings reflecting the artist's deep connection with nature, indigenous mythology, and spiritual symbols of the Shipibo culture.

The Otto Placht – Fleeting Eternity of the Amazon exhibition presents a comprehensive collection of works by one of the most original Czech artists of the past thirty years. For the first time, a complete selection of large-format pieces, deeply influenced by Placht's life in the Peruvian Amazon, will be exhibited within the unique spaces of the Municipal House in Prague. These artworks captivate with their highly decorative style, informed by the artist's knowledge of mythology and the spiritual symbols of the indigenous Shipibo culture. Since the 1990s, Otto Placht has captured the spirit of the Amazon jungle in his paintings, alternating poetic depictions of nature with the harsh realities of urban life. Many of the exhibited pieces were created using hand-made colors derived from tree bark and plants, offering visitors not only aesthetic impressions but also profound symbolism that prompts reflection on humanity's balance with nature. The exhibition is organized by Galerie Kmoch, Prague.

General admission is 190 CZK, with reduced rates available for specific groups. Family tickets are also offered. Tickets can be purchased exclusively at the historical box office of the Municipal House during opening hours (10:00 – 19:00 daily). School groups receive a discounted rate of 90 CZK per student with one accompanying teacher admitted free. Children under 10 and assistants for severely disabled visitors are admitted free of charge. The exhibition will be closed on March 6, 2025.
