This exhibition showcases the best of Czech graphic design history, featuring hundreds of works from the early 20th century to the present. It highlights iconic posters, books, magazines, and logotypes, demonstrating the interplay of aesthetic quality, technical realization, and functionality.
Spanning all three floors of Museum Kampa, 'Identity - the story of Czech graphic design' presents a comprehensive overview of the nation's graphic design heritage. The exhibition features several hundred exhibits, ranging from the early 20th century to contemporary pieces, including iconic posters, meticulously designed books and magazines, numerous logotypes, the evolution of state symbols and navigation systems, and exceptional examples of graphic design from the audiovisual media era.
Curated by Filip Blažek, Linda Kudrnovská, and David Korecký, this exhibition is part of a larger multi-genre project that includes a TV series, a feature film, and a book. The display is thematically divided into three sections: public space, shared experiences, and the private world. Special labels and arrows guide visitors to key exhibits, providing context on the broader cultural, historical, and political influences on graphic design and its reciprocal impact on society. This joint project by Kampa Museum, Typo, and Mowshe features graphic design by Marvil studio and architecture by Adam Blažek, Jan Kloss, and Matěj Činčera.
