This exhibition showcases sculptor Jan Hendrych's works created during his participation in various art symposia from 1965 to the present. It explores the artistic, social, and personal dimensions of these international collaborations, presenting original works, photographic documentation, and models where originals are lost.
The exhibition "Jan Hendrych / Symposia" delves into the artistic journey of sculptor Jan Hendrych (\*1936) through the works he created during his participation in art symposia. These international gatherings offered artists opportunities to experiment with non-traditional materials, expand their artistic horizons, and engage in creative dialogues, while also presenting challenges such as maintaining focus amidst social interactions. The exhibition covers eleven symposia, dating back to the Biennale of Spatial Forms in Elbląg, Poland (1965) and the Artchemo in Pardubice (1969), through to more recent events. Due to the loss of many early works, they are presented through period photographs and detailed textual descriptions, with photo-documentation or models used for large-scale realisations.
The display is thoughtfully arranged within the intimate setting of Museum Kampa's former stables, with select large-scale works in enamelled metal from the Smalt Art Vítkovice symposium extending to the outdoor terrace of the main museum building. The exhibition also features a contribution from guest artist Adam Velíšek (\*1990), a former student and current assistant to Hendrych. Velíšek presents his recent sculpture "Prostor pro rodinu" ("Family Space", 2023), which merges his interest in figurative art with conceptual design and innovative spatial concepts, reflecting a continuation and dialogue with Hendrych's legacy.
