Exhibition summary

This exhibition commemorates lawyer and MP Milada Horáková, a symbol of defiance against totalitarian regimes. It maps her anti-Nazi resistance, post-war public life, the fabricated trial for espionage and high treason, and her subsequent rehabilitation, highlighting the dangers of abusing political power.

Curatorial context

The Museum Kampa annually commemorates Milada Horáková, a lawyer and MP whose defiance in a politically fabricated trial and subsequent death sentence made her a symbol of resistance to all forms of totalitarian regimes. Her name represents courage and a willingness to fight lawlessness, injustice, and manipulation, making her legacy highly relevant today. The exhibition specifically maps Horáková's activities, including her involvement in the anti-Nazi resistance, her active participation in public life after World War II (such as leading the Union of Czechoslovak Women), and the fabricated political trial where she was the only woman sentenced to death for alleged espionage and high treason. It also covers the post-verdict 'afterlife' of her case: the annulment of the verdict in 1958 and the rehabilitation of her name in 1990. Prepared by historian Petr Blažek, the exhibition aims to illustrate the dangers of abusing political power in totalitarian regimes and emphasize the continuous need to oppose all manifestations of authoritarianism. The exhibition is installed in Kampa Park, between the Museum Kampa and Werich's Villa.

Admission and ticket notes

The exhibition will be available free of charge until August 24, 2020. It is installed in Kampa Park, along the road connecting the Kampa Museum with Werich’s Villa.
