The exhibition 'Olga Karlíková 1923-2004 Listening' presents a comprehensive look at the versatile work of Olga Karlíková, an artist known for her distinctive approach of humbly listening to and visually recording the sounds of nature. Her 'bird song' series, developed from the 1960s onwards, became a unique contribution to art in the latter half of the 20th century. The exhibition is structured into thematic units: Earth, Water, Space, and Song, allowing visitors to explore Karlíková's systematic examination of these elements throughout her career. It features paintings and drawings drawn from the collections of Czech galleries and museums, as well as significant pieces from the artist's estate, covering the period from 1948 to 2004.
Beyond her core artistic practice, the exhibition also delves into other facets of Karlíková's creative output, including her extraordinary infomel phase, her illustrations, and her textile designs. Karlíková's professional life in textile design spanned over twenty years at the Institute of Fashion and Housing Culture. The exhibition highlights her as an artist who was also a signatory of Charter 77, often compelled to create in seclusion for much of her life. This extensive presentation is accompanied by a significant monograph publication. The exhibition is a collaboration between Sophistica Gallery, Prague, and Museum Kampa.
