This exhibition features 13 artists, primarily painters, who demonstrate an intellectual approach to art history and exceptional artistic skill. The works explore a resurrection of melancholy, creating a pictorial dialogue between past art and inscribed emotional worlds, reflecting a contemporary state of introspection and the world's condition.
The exhibition 'Preparing for Darkness, Vol. 8,' curated by Uwe Goldenstein at Museum Kampa, presents a counter-concept to a perceived state of 'eternal post-modernity' in contemporary art. It highlights 13 artists, predominantly painters, who exemplify a generation marked by an exceptional intellectual approach and profound examination of art history, paired with extraordinary artistic skill. These artists offer a real, pictorially comprehensible dialogue between past art and their own inscribed emotional world, united by a 'resurrection of melancholy' that emphasizes the magical in the viewing experience. The curator's chosen metaphor, 'Preparing for Darkness,' is intended to describe both this melancholy and the current state of the world.
The participating artists include Nicola Samorì and Enrico Minguzzi from Italy, Flavia Pitis and Radu Belcin from Romania, Adela Janska, Richard Stipl, and Daniel Pitín from the Czech Republic, Adam Magyar and Attila Szűcs from Hungary, Inna Artemova from Germany, Adam Bota from Austria, and Liu Langqing from China, with Rafael Megall (Armenia) presented in collaboration with Demetrio Paparoni. The exhibition aims to evoke a sense of introspection and a return to tangible artistic craft, offering a significant viewing experience.
