This exhibition at Museum Kampa showcases the multifaceted work of sculptor Stanislav Kolíbal, focusing on his drawings and constructions across his career. It highlights his unique approach to sculpture based on outline rather than mass, and his exploration of 'in-between' spaces and states of potential change.
Museum Kampa presents "Stanislav Kolíbal: Books and Constructions," an exhibition dedicated to the sculptor, scenographer, and illustrator Stanislav Kolíbal. The exhibition spans his entire artistic career, from early drawings created in Ostrava in the 1940s to his more recent architectural-inspired works. Kolíbal's art is characterized by its focus on line, shape, and simple materials, creating sculptures based on outline rather than volume. He explored themes of instability, the potential of the moment, and the connection between stillness and movement.
The exhibition features drawings from the 1940s and book illustrations, where Kolíbal created visual parallels to literary texts by authors such as Marcus Aurelius, James Joyce, and Rainer Maria Rilke. His innovative approach to children's book illustration, exemplified by "The Fairy Tale Tree," emphasizes simplicity and allows for imagination. The latter part of the exhibition focuses on his "Buildings" series, created from 1988 onwards, which increasingly turned towards architecture, development, and construction. New reliefs created in 2022 specifically for this exhibition complete the presentation of Kolíbal's early and recent work.
