Exhibition summary

This exhibition at Museum Kampa showcases recent works by the prominent Czech painter and glass artist Vladimír Kopecký. It features a cycle of minimalistic paintings with a central triangular motif and a large spatial glass drawing created for the space.

Curatorial context

Museum Kampa presents an intimate exhibition of current works by the distinguished painter and glass artist Vladimír Kopecký. Born in 1931, Kopecký, a student of notable artists like René Roubíček and Stanislav Libenský, began his career in the 1950s and contributed to the Czechoslovak pavilion at EXPO 58. His artistic practice spans gestural painting, geometric abstraction, and glass art, showcasing remarkable invention across these fields. The featured collection comprises works from the last two years, primarily a series of minimalistic paintings centered on the triangle motif. The optical perception of the triangle shifts with color combinations, allowing the motif to stand out through Kopecký's austere expression. The triangle, an essential construction element in art history symbolizing space and spiritual hierarchy, is explored in Kopecký's colored surfaces. Contrasting these paintings is a large, almost monochromatic drawing demonstrating a bold artistic gesture, complemented by a specially created 'spatial glass drawing' for the exhibition space.
