This exhibition showcases recent works by the prominent Czech artist Vladimír Kopecký, focusing on his intense return to painting after 2000. It features large-format canvases characterized by gesture and color, alongside glass objects that translate his painting style into three dimensions. The display is divided into works with suppressed color and those where color is the primary creative element.
Born in 1932, Vladimír Kopecký is a seminal figure in Czech art history, celebrated for his multifaceted practice as a painter, sculptor, and glass designer. His work spans gestural painting, geometric abstraction, and figurative elements, unified by a profound exploration of color and space, influenced by his background as a trained glass artist. This exhibition, 'Gloria', presents Kopecký's intensely focused painting output from the last few years. The large-format canvases demonstrate remarkable naturalness, energy, and a palpable sense of creation. Visitors will experience works divided into two thematic installations: those emphasizing the artist's strong gesture with suppressed color, and those where color itself is the dominant creative force. Complementing the paintings is a series of unique vases and glass objects, thoughtfully designed to embody Kopecký's distinct painting manner in a three-dimensional form. The exhibition also includes a working design for a glass bridge print for the Prague Underground, reflecting his recent achievements. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published in cooperation with Retro Gallery.
