Curatorial context

The Fata Morgana Greenhouse transforms into a vibrant spectacle every spring with the 'BUTTERFLIES: THE ART OF SURVIVAL' exhibition. This event delves into the remarkable survival tactics of butterflies, creatures that may appear fragile but employ a wide array of ingenious strategies. Visitors will learn how eggs are hidden, caterpillars mimic their surroundings to avoid detection, and chrysalises use remarkable camouflage. Adult butterflies also possess defenses, from striking warning colours and eye-like patterns to confusing predators with unpredictable flight patterns. The exhibition also highlights the unique experience of witnessing an adult butterfly emerge from its chrysalis. Complementing the main exhibition, 'Secrets of Butterfly Life' is an interactive display located in the Exhibition Hall. This part of the event allows visitors to explore butterfly anatomy, understand how their proboscis functions, and discover the microscopic details of their wings that create their vibrant colours. It also sheds light on species like the scarce large blue butterfly, emphasizing the need for nature protection. Over 5,500 chrysalises from several dozen species are expected to arrive gradually from a partner farm, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for all visitors.
