This exhibition showcases a significant portion of the Richard Adam collection, focusing on Czech painting from the mid-1980s to the present. It highlights various artistic movements and generations, from the 'Tvrdohlaví' group to emerging contemporary artists.
The ACNE exhibition presents a comprehensive survey of Czech painting, drawing from the extensive Richard Adam collection, one of the most substantial groupings of Czech art from the mid-1980s to the present day. The collection spans several key artistic generations and movements, including the "Tvrdohlaví" (Hardheads), the lyrical tendencies of the Nineties (Česká abstraHce), and the "Bezhlavý jezdec" (Headless Horseman) group, extending to the newest painting influenced by comics, street art, and graffiti. The works on display represent a variety of orientations, such as minimalist, conceptualist, post-conceptualist, geometricist, and realist styles.
The exhibition traces Adam's collecting journey, starting with artists who would later form the "12/15 – pozdě, ale přece" group, moving to the "Tvrdohlaví" generation, and significantly including artists like Jiří Kovanda and Vladimír Skrepl. Since the mid-1990s, Adam has also championed emerging painters, a focus that remains central to his collection today. The selection for the Rudolfinum focuses on "classical" painting from the past decade, offering a focused view of this phenomenon in Prague for the first time.
