Curatorial context

The Last Painting, held at Galerie Rudolfinum, was a curated project by Milena Slavická that sought to investigate the relevance and potential of painting as a traditional medium in the late 1990s. By bringing together a cohort of emerging artists, the exhibition functioned as a space for critical examination, questioning how the pictorial form could exist and evolve in a contemporary art landscape often dominated by other disciplines. The title itself carried a degree of self-reflective irony regarding the act of painting at that time. Through the exhibition, the featured artists engaged in a cross-dialogue, testing the boundaries of the medium and their own creative approaches. The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Civic Association for the Support of Fine Arts.
