Sérstæðan, meaning 'Singularity,' is an interdisciplinary dance work that delves into the hypothesis of the technological singularity—a future moment where technological growth exceeds human control, leading to irreversible transformations. The performance tells the story of an entity named Vera, who has shed her physical form to exist solely within the digital realm. The work poses profound questions about what remains of humanity when we lose our bodies, physical touch, and the ability to feel pain or pleasure. By replacing the physical dancer with a stage environment of light, water, smoke, and sound, the performance creates a unique, non-anthropocentric experience that challenges the audience's perception of existence. The performance serves as an ode to the human body and our senses, reflecting on what disappears when we transition into a digital state. Artistic director and choreographer Rósa Ómarsdóttir brings a feminist dramaturgy to the work, weaving together complex ecosystems of human and non-human elements.
