Curatorial context

Since the end of the 1990s, four teams of renowned architects have undertaken the ambitious task of converting four 102-year-old gasometers into a vibrant new urban complex. Located in Vienna's Simmering district, an area with a rich industrial past, the transformed gasometers now house 615 modern flats and a large events hall capable of accommodating 4,200 people. The ground floor of this extensive complex spans 22,000 m2 and features a shopping mall with approximately 70 retail outlets, offering a significant retail destination. This architectural conversion is notable for its scale; each of the four 75-meter-high gasometers is large enough to easily fit Vienna's Giant Ferris Wheel. The complex is conveniently situated just eight minutes from the city center via the U3 underground line (station: Gasometer), providing excellent accessibility for both residents and visitors seeking shopping opportunities in any weather.
