Curatorial context

The Jüdisches Museum, located in the Palais Eskeles, presents a comprehensive overview of the history and contemporary life of Jewish people in Vienna. Visitors are greeted by an installation by artist Brigitte Kowanz and a faithfully restored entrance area. The museum's permanent exhibitions are divided into three sections: the Schaudepot, which showcases collections and the personalities behind them, such as Max Berger; the Atelier, serving as both a workshop and exhibition space for ritual objects; and the "Unsere Stadt!" exhibition, which has been offering insights into Jewish life and history since 2013, spanning from 1945 to the present day on the ground floor, and from early beginnings to 1938/1945 on the second floor. A 3D animation virtually reconstructs Vienna's synagogues destroyed in 1938. In addition to permanent displays, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions and numerous events. The Taïm Café is also located on the ground floor. The Museum Judenplatz, which includes the Holocaust Memorial, is part of the Jüdisches Museum, and a single ticket grants access to both locations.
