The Kunsthalle Wien is Vienna's central exhibition venue for contemporary art, featuring rotating exhibitions and events at its MuseumsQuartier and Karlsplatz locations. It focuses on presenting international contemporary and modern art without maintaining its own collection.
Established in 1992, the Kunsthalle Wien is dedicated to the presentation of international contemporary and modern art. With its main venue located in the MuseumsQuartier, in a functional new building designed by Ortner + Ortner within a former baroque riding hall, and an additional outpost at Karlsplatz housed in a glass cube by Adolf Krischanitz, the institution offers a dynamic program. Kunsthalle Wien does not possess its own collection but instead explores various aspects of art through individual and thematic exhibitions. It actively commissions new productions, collaborates with national and international artists and institutions, and develops exhibitions and publications based on current research, aiming to provide a significant platform for artists. The venues are noted for their integration of contemporary art with modern architecture.
General admission is 14 €, with a reduced price of 11 € for Vienna City Card holders. The Kunsthalle Wien MuseumsQuartier location will be closed between April 7th and April 29th, 2026, for exhibition changes.
