Curatorial context
The world-famous Madame Tussauds wax museum is a significant attraction within Vienna's Prater, housing over 80 meticulously crafted wax figures. Spread across 2,000 m² over three floors, the museum features local personalities such as Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sisi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Falco, Maria Theresia, and Gustav Klimt, alongside international celebrities like Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman, and global figures such as Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. Visitors can engage in interactive experiences, such as conducting a waltz with Johann Strauss or taking an intelligence test against Albert Einstein.
Launched in February 2017, the "Sisi Uncovered Experience" offers an in-depth look at Empress Elisabeth's life through a 200 m² exhibit utilizing ultra-modern technology, 3D animations, and sensory impressions to create an authentic historical immersion. The production of each wax figure is an extensive process, taking three to six months and requiring over 500 body measurements and approximately 200 photographs, with each figure representing about 800 hours of work and an investment of around €200,000. Visitors are encouraged to take photographs and selfies with the figures.
Admission and ticket notes
Standard ticket price is €26.50, with reduced tickets available on-site. The attraction is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 5 p.m. While most facilities are accessible, there are capacity limits for wheelchair users (nine per floor) which may cause waiting times.
