The Furniture Museum Vienna presents an exhibition focusing on the furniture used in the iconic Sissi films starring Romy Schneider. It explores how the museum's collection served as an imperial backdrop for these popular 1950s classics.
The Furniture Museum Vienna (Möbelmuseum Wien) is dedicating an exhibition, 'Sissi im Film,' to the cinematic furniture from the legendary Sissi films featuring Romy Schneider. The museum's extensive furniture collection played a crucial role as an imperial backdrop during the early 1950s when these popular films were made. While the films, particularly those directed by Ernst Marischka, aimed for authenticity, the interior shots were largely filmed in Vienna's Rosenhügelstudios rather than at Schönbrunn Palace or the Hofburg. The exhibition delves into the behind-the-scenes production, showcasing film excerpts, props, photos, and posters along a 'Sisi-Pfad' (Sisi Path) through the museum, drawing parallels between the film's depiction of Empress Elisabeth and her historical counterpart. This exhibition offers a unique perspective on how historical artifacts were utilized to create iconic cinematic moments.
Tickets are available online and on-site. Prices range from €20.00 for a standard ticket (permanent and special exhibition) to €18.00 for a reduced price. Combination tickets and guided tours are also available. A 'Sisi Pass' is valid until July 2026. Discount: -10% with Vienna City Card.
