Exhibition summary

Curatorial context

The Wagner Stadtbahn Pavilions represent a significant achievement in Viennese Art Nouveau architecture, with designs by the influential Otto Wagner. Originally part of the Wiener Stadtbahn (Vienna City Railway), which opened 100 years ago, these structures showcase Wagner's dedication to aesthetic and urban planning, integrating functional transport with artistic design. Today, while some former Stadtbahn lines operate as the U-Bahn or S-Bahn, the preserved station buildings have been meticulously restored. Notable examples include the Wagner-Hofpavillon Hietzing and the famous Art Nouveau pavilions at Karlsplatz. The pavilions at Karlsplatz, though no longer in their original function, serve cultural purposes. One hosts the Otto Wagner Documentation of the Wien Museum, displaying drawings and models of his work, while the other is integrated into a café. This page provides details for both the Otto Wagner Pavilion Karlsplatz and the Otto Wagner Hofpavillon Hietzing, including specific opening times and accessibility information.

Admission and ticket notes

Tickets for the Otto Wagner Pavilion Karlsplatz are available online and on-site, with a normal price of €5 and a reduced price of €4. A 20% discount is available with the Vienna City Card. Entry is free on the first Sunday of every month.
