This exhibition celebrates 25 years and over 100 issues of the journal 'dérive — Journal for Urban Research'. It delves into academic, artistic, and activist explorations of the city, focusing on themes such as housing, public space, and urban society's democratization.
‘dérive. Urban Horizon’ marks a quarter-century of the journal 'dérive — Journal for Urban Research' and its commitment to exploring the city. The exhibition traces the journal's journey through academia, art, and activism, highlighting key issues like housing, public space, and the democratization of urban society. It offers insights into 'dérive's' theoretical and practical engagement with urban space as political space. Since 2000, the journal has informed on the "urban" from multiple perspectives, driven by the vision of an emancipatory socio-economic system that collectively shapes urban space for encounter, difference, and participation, as articulated by Henri Lefebvre's "right to the city" concept. Founded out of a passion for the city, 'dérive' has evolved into an international network of urban researchers, planners, artists, and activists whose work is disseminated through the journal, Radio dérive, the urbanize! Festival, and other projects. This exhibition uses the journal as a foundation to illustrate this deep engagement with urban topics.
