Neue Wilde: Exploring Invasive Plant Species & Global Ecology in Vienna's Botanical Garden

This exhibition explores the globalization of plant life, detailing the travel routes of invasive plant species and their characteristics that enable rapid proliferation in new environments. It examines the role of botanical gardens and private gardens as sources for invasive plant spread, alongside the risks and opportunities presented by these 'new wild' species.

The exhibition 'Neue Wilde: Globalisierung in der Pflanzenwelt' delves into how plants travel faster and wider than their natural mechanisms allow, often facilitated by human transport. It highlights the phenomenon of invasive plant species, describing their journeys across continents and the special traits that allow them to thrive in new locations. The exhibition also investigates the significance of botanical gardens and private gardens as initial breeding grounds for these invasive species, and discusses the associated risks and potential opportunities presented by these 'new wild' plants. Visitors can engage with the content through 14 themed panels displayed along the main avenue and 18 informational profiles of various invasive plant species distributed throughout the garden. A comprehensive accompanying brochure, featuring the themed panels, profiles of 35 invasive plant species, and two additional contributions, is available for purchase at the main entrance's porter's lodge. This exhibition was extended until October 2022 and was a collaboration with the Verband Botanischer Gärten.

Information regarding specific ticketing for this exhibition is not detailed on the page, but a brochure with exhibition content is available for purchase at the main entrance's porter's lodge. Visitors can book guided tours related to the exhibition on their desired date.
