This exhibition, 'Vielfalt am Teller' (Diversity on the Plate), addresses the pressing challenges of future food security for a growing global population. It explores themes of regionality versus globalization, superfoods, food trends, and soil health, developed in collaboration with students and visitors.
The exhibition "Vielfalt am Teller" (Diversity on the Plate) was held at the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna from May 12 to June 3, 2018, as part of the EU project "Big Picnic – Big Questions on Food Security." It critically examines the increasingly difficult challenge of ensuring secure, healthy, and nutrient-rich food access for everyone in the face of a continuously growing world population.
Thematic focal points, including regionality versus globalization, superfoods, food trends, and soil health, were developed through discussions with students and visitors. The project's main objectives are public education and awareness, as well as capturing the opinions and concerns of visitors. Three "Science Cafés" were hosted during the exhibition, providing opportunities for exchange with experts from science and practice on topics such as soil preservation, regionality and seasonality, and food safety and current food trends. A special family day with games and experiments focused on nutrition and biodiversity.
