The exhibition "K.u.k. Hof-Wagen Fabrik J. Rohrbacher" delves into the significant business history of Josef Rohrbacher (1817-1883) and his family. It chronicles the establishment of their factory and residential building in Hietzing in 1852, detailing the production of various types of vehicles including horse-drawn carriages, freight wagons, horse-drawn tramway cars, delivery vehicles, and military transport. The exhibition covers the company's operations until production ceased in 1969 and the subsequent development of the firm's site up to 1986. Josef Rohrbacher, born in Hammern in Bohemia, learned the trade of a wagon maker in Vienna in 1832. After working at the Hofwagenfabrik J. Lohner, he married into the Wagnerei Rainer family and took over their business in 1844. He later purchased the property at Maria Theresien Str. 36 (now Hietzinger Hauptstraße 119), where he founded his factory and residence in 1852, laying the foundation for a significant local industrial enterprise.
