Curatorial context

Robert Hum, born in Vienna in 1941, discovered his passion for drawing, painting, and modeling from a young age. Hindered by the economic struggles of his family and the absence of his father due to the war, he was unable to pursue formal artistic education and instead learned the trade of a machine fitter. After working for some years, Hum embarked on extensive travels through Africa and Asia. Upon returning to Vienna, he met his wife Herta and worked in a hotel, where he became known as the 'hotel cartoonist' for his continuous sketching. In his 'retirement,' Hum dedicated himself to living his artistic talent, with successful presentations of his work encouraging his continued self-taught learning and exploration of his creative abilities.
