This exhibition explores the transformation of the Meidling district in Vienna over nearly 130 years since its incorporation. It highlights the impact of industrialization, construction, and infrastructure development on the area, while also noting the persistence of its original village character in some parts.
Since its incorporation into Vienna nearly 130 years ago, the district of Meidling has undergone significant changes, evolving into a modern urban center. The exhibition 'Meidling Einst & Jetzt – Zeitsprünge' (Meidling Then & Now – Time Leaps) delves into this transformation, examining the influence of industrial growth, continuous construction, and advancements in transport, including railways and the subway. These developments have dramatically reshaped the landscape of the formerly rural villages of Unter-Meidling, Ober-Meidling, Gaudenzdorf, Altmannsdorf, and Hetzendorf. Despite these extensive changes, the exhibition acknowledges that certain areas within the district still retain a charming, traditional village atmosphere, offering a nuanced view of Meidling's historical and contemporary identity.
