The exhibition 'Wassergeschichte(n) & Wiener Neustädter Kanal' (Water Story(ies) & Wiener Neustadt Canal) is dedicated to the water history of Simmering, Vienna's 11th district. A central theme is the Wiener Neustädter Canal, an artificial waterway that once connected Wiener Neustadt to a harbor basin near Wien Mitte and passed through Simmering. The exhibition details how horse-drawn ships utilized the canal to transport goods such as wood, coal, and bricks.
In addition to the canal, the exhibition also examines other significant water-related sites and features in Simmering, including the Albern Harbor, the Danube's course, the Danube Canal ferry, the Seeschlachtgraben, mills in Kaiserebersdorf, the Neugebäude gardens, the Göpelbrunnen, bathing facilities, the Simmering reservoir, the ebswien sewage treatment plant, and memories of the puppet theater artist Sven Stäcker and his 'Kanal-Puppen' (Canal Puppets). A model of the Göpelbrunnen, which was once used for irrigating vegetable fields on Simmering Heath, is also featured.
