This exhibition honors the writer, lyricist, and translator Erich Fried. Curated by students, it showcases personal belongings, artworks, and artifacts donated by his family, complementing the Fried memorial site.
The exhibition 'Zu Besuch bei Erich Fried' (Visiting Erich Fried) was the first special exhibition held in the renovated spaces of the Bezirksmuseum. It focused on the life and work of Erich Fried (1921-1988), a writer, lyricist, and translator. The exhibition was notably curated by the 8A class of the Erich Fried-Realgymnasium. Erich Fried, who lived in Alserbachstraße 11, was forced to leave school at age seventeen due to his Jewish heritage and emigrated to London, where he became a celebrated German-language poet.
Following the death of his widow, Catherine Fried, in 2015, the family entrusted all of Erich Fried's memorabilia to the ALSEUM as a permanent loan. This collection includes paintings, photographs, artworks by Catherine and Erich Fried, and personal items. Of particular note are display cases filled with objects Erich Fried collected after visiting Auschwitz, serving as poignant reminders of his experiences. The special exhibition enhances the Fried memorial site within the ALSEUM by incorporating this significant collection from the family's possession. The exhibition's closing event featured Museum Director Willi Urbanek and Klaus Fried, the poet's son, who presented a catalog of Fried's writings.
