The mumok hosts "Das Erste Mal," a screening program curated by artist Florian Meisenberg, which focuses on the nascent stages of video art. The event presents the first video works of contemporary artists—experimental, direct, and often eccentric short films that reveal creative beginnings where intuition precedes style and curiosity overrides calculation. The moving image is explored as a tool for testing ideas in real time, allowing accidents, hesitation, and discovery to remain visible. The mumok presentation draws on Meisenberg’s archive and includes new works that respond to the local context, notably Tolia Astakhishvili's first film, "Horses" (1998).
Florian Meisenberg, born in Berlin in 1980, lives and works in New York, with a practice spanning painting, installation, and film. The event is conducted in English. This program is part of "Tolia Curriculum," a project by Georgian artist Tolia Astakhishvili, which unfolds as a series of workshops, lectures, screenings, and participatory formats, developing her work in situ in the lead-up to her major exhibition.
