Curatorial context

The exhibition "History Hustory* / Museum of Self-Care" grapples with the complexities of documenting and showcasing evolving, transgressive, and often uncomfortable aspects of trans* identities and histories. It questions who holds the power to define legitimacy and legitimacy in representation, particularly in light of the historical scarcity of materials accounting for trans* lives. The exhibition aims to challenge heteronormativity and patriarchal domination by examining the fluid nature of trans* histories and historicities. Through micronarratives and a creative campaign, the exhibition sheds light on the multifaceted realities of trans* living and experiences in Eastern and Southern Europe. In partnership with the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art, it constructs a "Trans*folk toy collection" intended to broaden trans*/queer representation via hybrid figuration and sound. The program is curated by Budapest-based Lívia Páldi and artivist Nat Schastnev, and features works by Aliza Orlan, Krëlex zentre (Ruthia Jenrbekova and Maria Vilkovisky), Stela Roxana Pascal, Nika Pećarina, and Nat Schastnev.
