Yorkshire Museum Unveils Rare After-Hours Experience at York Museum Gardens
Visitors planning a trip to the historic heart of York will soon have a brand-new way to experience one of the city's most cherished green spaces. This August, the grounds surrounding the Yorkshire Museum will open their gates after hours for a special series of evening events.
Evening Access to Historic Grounds
Typically closing at 5 pm, the botanical grounds managed by York Museums Trust will reopen exclusively for ticket holders from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The special program, titled Evening in the Gardens, is scheduled for two exclusive Friday nights: 14 August 2026 and 28 August 2026.
Set against the atmospheric backdrop of the medieval St Mary’s Abbey ruins, the adults-only gatherings offer a relaxed environment to take in the landscape as daylight fades. Guests can expect live musical performances, street food vendors, and a curated selection of cocktails.

The adults-only sessions (restricted to visitors aged 18 and over) provide a unique atmosphere for a casual evening out or a quiet stroll among centuries-old architecture.
Tickets are priced at £7.50, which includes a complimentary cocktail upon arrival. Additional refreshments and street food will be available to purchase on-site throughout the evening.
